I have the same problem with the Dell Studio 1558, only with the i3
processor and the integrated Intel Video.

I updated the BIOS from the A08 to the A11 version, it continued to freeze, stops responding completely.  Tried several other workarounds, none worked.  Will try to get a older kernel or disabling acpi and report on the results.
