In previous versions of Ubuntu, my HP Compaq 8710P middle button worked
on both below my trackpad and below my pointing stick ("nipple"
pointer).

In Maverick it doesn't.

I had a look at http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=10051070

Here is "xinput list | grep 'id='"  (with the Virtual Core pointer bits,
the rest removed
