Thanks for the suggestion, but unfortunately none of the suggestions on
that thread work for me - the trouble is that mtp devices do not mount
as a mass storage device (mtp=media transfer protocol=M$ 'plays for
sure'). To mount it manually one needs to install mtpfs, which lets you
mount it as a FUSE file system. But as far as I can tell, this is not
how the system is doing it when I plug it in.
