Question #76349 on Ubuntu changed:

Status: Open => Answered
Tom proposed the following answer:
Dohh, i was hoping you hadn't installed it so perfectly :( Now it looks
like we'll have to find a real answer :( lol ;)
Please, when you reply to posts from here rather than posting directly
into the thread please cut off the tail of your email (the bit with all
the stuff we send you) because all that's in the thread already. Don't
worry, different forums run differently and it takes a while to adjust,
we all did stuff like that and it's not a problem :)
The options 2 and 4 has handy monthly maintenance tasks and also have a
couple of tools handy for dealing with problems. Try 2 and you'll find
it's default (top in this case) option is to "resume normal boot" which
gives a slightly more verbose output which can be fun to watch racing
by. The different numbers are different kernels. If you have problems
booting into the top one then you can try one of the older kernels and
usually find yourself back in Ubuntu and able to fix stuff ;) All good
even without even starting on the LiveCd functionality of most linux
distros (including Ubuntu) ;)
Option 5 - the memtest, a big yawn but it does test your physical ram
and marks any bad blocks allowing "dead" ram to be useful again :)
You're unlikely to need this unless you try out some 'new' ram that
didn't let you boot into Ubuntu.
