I strongly suggest you run:

sudo passwd -l root

to disable root, and stick to sudo.

If you want a root console use:

sudo -i

and type exit when you are done. This is a security feature as root is
common on all *nix systems. If the account is disabled there is zero
percent chance of capturing the account. The attacker will need to guess
your username too.
