[Question #77071]: Very high IOWait on jaunty

My jaunty desktop computer is suffering from really high IOWait that is rendering the computer pretty unresponsive. iotop shows no input or output activity at all, but my system-monitor gnome applet shows very high IOWait value with almost not CPU usage at all.

How can I trace which process is causing that? I tried shutting down my running apps one at a time, but the results are not very decisive. It seems to stop when all of them are shut down.
