[Question #77196]: Cannot "switch on" my wired ethernet connection

New question #77196 on dhcp in ubuntu:
https://answers.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dhcp/+question/77196

Binary package hint: gnome-nettool

this is 8.10

I have a link light on the adapter.
ifconfig says eth0 is running MULTICAST
How do I get it to obtain an IP address from the router?

I seem to have only loopbacks on ipv4 and ipv6
But the wireless works OK
