Re: [Question #77262]: how can I get canoscan 3000F to work with ubuntu

Question #77262 on xsane in ubuntu changed:
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xsane/+question/77262

Tom proposed the following answer:
Yep, go up to the top taskbar and click on

System - Administration - Synaptic Package Manager

it asks for your normal user password, not your SuperUser/Root one. Use
either search tool (but i prefer the "Search" button because it searches
descriptions as well as titles) to search for "xsane". Note that
everything already installed on your machine is marked by a green
splodge. To install something new right-click on it and select install
and then click on the "Apply" button. While you're in Synaptic it might
be worth searching for "canoscan 3000F" or just "canoscan" just to see
if it finds anything extra that might be helpful. Oh, also while there
it's worth clicking on "Mark all updates".

Err, you might also find this guide helpful to reference for odd things here and there
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SwitchingToUbuntu/FromWindows

And i also found this good to work through after installing Ubuntu
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Medibuntu
I went with non-free components which i haven't had to pay for but would like to one day leave all that behind and go completely OpenSource to really free myself. In the meantime i just want to be able to watch movies and stuff without hassle.

Anyway, good luck and regards from
Tom :)
