Question #77254 on Ubuntu changed:

Tom proposed the following answer:
Heck i would definitely write an email or 2 to them and ask if they have
a version written for linux. The linux desktop market is the fastest
growing market in IT today and it's amazing how few of these companies
haven't jumped on-board to be ahead of their rivals - it'd be an easy
way to grab early and perhaps lasting dominance in a fast growing market
as well as giving them greater mind-share in traditional desktop markets
;)

support@xxxxxxxxxx

Well worth asking them about an OpenSource version that would then be
easy to port to all the various *nix platforms, such as Apple - and
would also give a potentially huge range of alpha/beta testers. Well
worth it for the comedy value at least, companies really can't see the
huge benefits and worry more about FUD spread around by microsquish.

I would also post these questions into their forums
http://www.cadvance.com/cgi-bin/discus/discus.cgi
to see if anyone had any advice about trying to use this CAD package in linux because it's the only thing left that keeps you going back to Windows ;) Don't worry about stupid people making dumb comments, there's a lot of Windows fanboys out there who are pretty clueless about linux. Usually if they do ever really try linux they go all quiet with embarrassment lol

Also learning 1 highly complex package, such as CAD stuff, tends to be a lot more difficult than gradually getting used to another one. If you can find a native linux Cad package you might find a lot of similarities and perhaps even easier, friendlier or technically better tools and ways of working. I would try to find one and give it a bit of a go while trying to solve the Vista issue. I found Gimp quite easy to use but had always steered away from the complexities of photoshop. Apparently it's only extremely advanced photoshop users that don't find gimp better for almost everything.

Also if possible i would install Xp, or grudgingly Vista, in a Virtual
Machine on your machine - if you choose the Vista option then you can
use the same product licence key becuase it's effectively just a re-
install to the same hardware ;) Just don't mention virtual machine to
the sales staff at microsquish tech supprt or 'customer support' because
they are focussed on trying to find any xcuse to charge you again for
something that's already yours - eg the licence.

I think really it's got to be worth keeping checking the Wine forums to see if anyone has ideas about how to tweak Wine to get this working
http://appdb.winehq.org/

Many things do work straight away in Wine but many need a lot of standard (and not so standard) Wine tricks in order to get them working.

Good luck with attacking this problm from all sides!
Regards from
Tom :)
