Here is an article that describes the way I burn my DVDs:
http://www.linux.com/news/software/multimedia/8250-convert-any-video-
file-to-dvd-with-open-source-tools.  It describes how to convert to the
MPEG2 and AC3 streams needed to be compatible with DVD  and how to make
an iso using dvdauthor (a great program in my opinion).  If you want you
could just try converting the file to MPEG2/AC3 and then try burning
with Brasero (I dont see why that would not work).
