actionparsnip proposed the following answer:
It will affect karmic as it is alpha and is due out in october, there is
3 months of development left to be done before release so you will get
issues. Unless you are competant to fix your own issues at any level
(from simple config to recompiling apps to make them work) you should
not use alpha software at all.

you can use apt-build to compile and install apps easily
