Question #77254 on Ubuntu changed:

Tom proposed the following answer:
Ok, the most popular vmware is VirtualBox which happens to be included in the repos (repositories) of most linux distros including Ubuntu.
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/VirtualBox
You can install VirtualBox through Synaptic Package Manager. On the top
taskbar click on
System - Administration - Synaptic
it asks for your normal user password, not your SuperUser/Root one. Use
either search tool although i tend to prefer the "Search" button because
it searches through package descriptions as well as titles, so i can be
a lot more vague about what i'm looking for. Anyway, search for
"virtualbox" and right-click on it to install and then click on "Apply".
Note that all programs, codecs, libraries and other packages already
installed on your machine are marked by a green splodge, ones available
in the current repos you have selected are unmarked.
Synaptic is not the only package manager in Ubuntu but does provide a
central point for hunting out new software you might need, then
installs, keeps it updated and can remove . Add/remove applications
reads the same repos and uses the same lists but presents the
information a little differently. Both of these use the same command-
line package to do the 'real' work ;)

As for attempts at asking about this sort of thing in Cadvance forums, i
think it will take a critical mass before anything much really happens.
To your one voice asking in there once will eventually be added others
asking and as this happens in an increasing number of software
developers and hardware manufacturers sites they will increasingly take
notice. So don't hold your breath on getting anywhere with it but
thanks for helping the linux community with that :)
Good luck and regards from
Tom :)
