There are many books available to teach you how Linux is constructed,
too many to mention.  The problem with books is that they are out of
date the moment they are published yet the fundamentals never change.

One that I can recommend is "The Official Ubuntu Book" (4th Edition)
which is especially written for those who are new to Ubuntu.
