Re: [Question #77688]: Want to eliminate Web filtering, please help!

Question #77688 on firefox-3.0 in ubuntu changed:
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox-3.0/+question/77688

Jeruvy proposed the following answer:
OPEN Wifi is just that, no passwords or authentication it just allows
any connection that requests one. If this works then you know the
System, the OS, the software all seems to be working and fine.

CLOSED Wifi is one that enables authentication typically by one of these
protocals: WEP, WPA, WPA2 there are others but you'll unlikely see
them, if you do then please post the details. When connecting it will
ask for a password. In many cases the password needs to be sent in a
method that the wireless router/AP supports, in most cases a 'plaintext'
password will work, in some cases you need to submit the password in
HEXADECIMAL.

Regardless of how you enter it, if you cannot login then it's a matter
of entering the correct password in the correct fashion. You may want
to contact your wireless product support folks if you need more
information.
