actionparsnip proposed the following answer:
gksudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list

Thats like not being able to run MS Word because you do not have an
internet connection. The system is entirely self contained so you can
type stuff and run the apps on the system if there is a link to the web
or not. This is the same in 99% of systems. Only thinclient systems NEED
a web connection
