Question #78113 on Ubuntu changed:

    Status: Open => Answered

Tom proposed the following answer:
Ok, can you download Ubuntu from
http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download
and make a cd of it, i find the really cheap "Write once" cds better than more expensive kinds for this
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BurningIsoHowto

I've seen this problem before, it's in the "Solved Answers" database
which you can look up in here but the main thing is that i don't think
you're making things worse by keeping using Ubuntu. It's late in my
country so i will try to remember to look this up tomorrow. Until then
make a cd if you can and also in your working Ubuntu try to create a new
user

System - Administration - Users&Groups

The new user should work normally
Good luck and regards from
Tom :)
