I get this output on running vlc from terminal

with mplayer it is running well, but there a error message which comes initially: ioctl dif1: Input/output error
does not run with totem(for playing vcd) this message comes: Could not open location; you might not have permission to open the file.
however totem plays the files from location in the hard drives(except DAT files)
