Hi,

First make sure to disable encryption and enable SSID broadcasting on
the wireless router. Make sure the SSID is not hidden. Also make sure
that wicd is not trying to use encryption as well.

You can also try booting an older kernel version using the grub boot
menu. You can enter the grub menu by pressing the ESC(ape) key a few
seconds after rebooting your pc. There might be a bug/regression in the
kernel version you are currently using.

After booting into the older kernel version, try scanning for networks
again using this command:

sudo iwlist scan

If that does not help either, I suggest booting from the following
LiveCD's to see which one works fine with your wireless chipset: Ubuntu
9.04 LiveCD, Mandriva Linux One 2009 Spring LiveCD and openSUSE 11.1
32-bit LiveCD.

The problem you are experiencing might be strictly limited to Kubuntu
v9.04 and might not occur on other distributions.

Regards,

Mark
