Re: [Question #78180]: changing boot name on osx
Question #78180 on Ubuntu changed:
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/78180
Tom proposed the following answer:
I think you're not using the linux boot-loader to boot up the system.
If you were then the menu would look like this
Ubuntu 9.04, kernel 2.6.28-11-generic
Ubuntu 9.04, kernel 2.6.28-11-generic (recovery mode)
Ubuntu 9.04, memtest86+
There might be a couple of other entries below the automagic list,
hopefully including one for osx. Please let us know if there are
further items below the automagic section you showed us in here.
I have a feeling that there are about 2 possible scenarios's
1. You're using osx's boot-loader - which might also be a grub but on your osx partition
2. You installed Ubuntu inside Windows and then somehow edited the the ntldr!
If you are using the osx boot-loader (this seems the most likely
explanation) then you'll need to look up Mac forums to find out how to
edit their boot-menu. All i could find from a quick search around a
system i've never used before was a vague reference to "boot camp" and
"yaboot". If there are options for booting into osx underneath the
automagic list that you posted into here then it's quite easy to
reinstate our familiar grub but i'm cautious of describing how in case
that somehow stops you from ever booting into osx.
Sorry i just don't know enough about osx to be able to risk it.
Good luck and regards from
Tom :)
