According to http://openprinting.org/show_printer.cgi?recnum=Lexmark-X83 somebody got it working with one of the Lexmark Z42 drivers, so you could try the gutenprint or drv_z42 driver. The drv_z42 is not included in Ubuntu, so you need to install it manually. Please update http://openprinting.org/edit_printer.cgi?recnum=Lexmark-X83 with any additional information.
If neither of these drivers works correctly/as expected please blame Lexmark and ask them for a Linux driver.
If you recently bought your printer please consider returning it to the store were you purchased it and ask a refund, if more people do this then printer manufacturers could become aware that they need to create Linux printer drivers.
