Hi

It is fine to ask a lot of different questions all at the same time. As
long as you keep questions into a separate thread for each topic there's
no problem :)

For help with SLED please feel free to navigate to their user forums from this page
http://distrowatch.com/table.php?distribution=novell

Before installing any distro on a machine please try it's LiveCd session to see how that looks as a demo. Some distros don't have it but Ubuntu's is fairly easy to get to. Just place the Ubuntu cd in your cd/dvd-drive and reboot the machine. This should get you to a menu with an option "Try Ubuntu without changes to this machine", if not then this guide might help
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BootFromCD
Choosing the option "Try Ubuntu ..." should get you to a working desktop which we call a "LiveCd session" and firefox there should let you surf right into here

Good luck with this!
Regards from
Tom :)
