Re: [Question #78009]: Can't install from CD or from internet downloads
Question #78009 on firefox-3.0 in ubuntu changed:
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox-3.0/+question/78009
Tom proposed the following answer:
Brilliant, nicely found!!
Also try going up to the top taskbar and click on
System Administration - Synaptic Package Manager
on the settings menu click on "Repositories" and in that click on the
2nd tab at the top "Third Party Software" then when you have the cd in
the drive click on "Add Cd".
Note that as i pointed out before it's unlikely that any cd you have has
an appropriate version of software on it as they are mostly Windows
versions that get "dished out" like that. Mostly linux stuff is from
on-line but you can use the "File" menu in Synaptic to help build up a
list of what you want and then use anyo other machine, even a Windows
machine to download what you wanted and save all that onto cd to take
back to your machine. Note that when you try this for yourself it is
worth puting the file from Ubuntu into a new folder on the desktop or
somewhere before double-clicking on it because the downloads will
usually go straight into th folder that contains the file you just
double-clicked, which can get a bit messy sometimes.
Sorry i didn't give you a good answer for this last time!
Good luck and regards from
Tom :)
