Hi :)
This forum would help other people with similar problems in the future. I am no faster by email than i am in here. you could change your email address in
https://launchpad.net/~chris-fourman
unless that is the same address, if that's an issue. I can't see your email address there just as you can't see mine in
https://launchpad.net/~tomdavies04
Ok, so you have 3Gb ram but only 1Gb swap. Swap really needs to be at
least equal to Ram but not more than twice ram - although wasting a tiny
bit more on such huge drives really isn't a problem and does mean that
future ram upgrades are sufficiently covered ;)
Can you copy & paste the results of "sudo fdisk -l" into here?
As a general rule, assuming Windows wasn't already pre-installed the i
would set up a drive like this
sda1 =2xRam + a tiny bit. Primary Partition, 'filesystem' = linux-swap
sda2 10Gb Primary Partition, file-system = ext3 for /
sda3 huge Primary Partition for Windows
sda4 20Gb Extended Partition, no file-system as it's hollow for holding lots partitions
. sda5 15Gb Logical Partition, file-system = ext3 for /home
. sda6 5Gb for fun trying out other linux distros and general testing area.
However, there are lots of other ways and i might change that plan for
any of a load of different reasons. Note that you don't set the "/" or
"/home" until you're in the "Partitioning Section" of the installer.
I hope this helps!
Good luck and regards from
Tom :)
