Re: [Question #78960]: Does Ubuntu function as a computer browser?
Question #78960 on Ubuntu changed:
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/78960
Status: Open => Needs information
mikb requested for more information:
Having similar problems. Custom defined workgroup has been in use
reliably, pre-Ubuntu. Ubuntu produces "WORKGROUP", apparently
arbitrarily. Also assigns some active Ubuntu partitions arbitrarily to
either.
Possibly compounded with two networked machines, both capable of booting
to Ubuntu or specific Windows versions (one xp, one W98 SE).
Cannot get consistent reliable connection to shared data disk /
partitions using the single (custom named) workgroup and frequently
failure to mount when randomly (apparently) assigned to either my own or
arbitrary Ubuntu "WORKGROUP"
Have edited /etc/hostname for both Ubuntu platforms with individual
names and ensured /etc/hosts uses these specifically with ."custom name"
appended.
Please advise.
Latest Ubuntu installation has suddenly decided to "lose" both the top
and bottom panels making it a rather cryptic computing environment.
Please advise
