Re: [Question #78960]: Does Ubuntu function as a computer browser?

Question #78960 on Ubuntu changed:
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/78960

    Status: Needs information => Solved

LEGOManiac confirmed that the question is solved:
I checked the smb.conf file and found this:

# Domain Master specifies Samba to be the Domain Master Browser. If this
# machine will be configured as a BDC (a secondary logon server), you
# must set this to 'no'; otherwise, the default behavior is recommended.
#   domain master = auto

This appears to confirm my suspicion that Ubuntu had taken over the
Master Browser function, at least for itself. The other computers
continued to use the Windows 2000 Server as the Master Browser.

I took a semi-educated guess and disabled it:

   domain master = no

I hope that works. Mind you, I've only had this problem come up 3 or 4
times in the last 7 months so it will be hard to tell for sure if this
is the solution.

Of course, I suppose I could set it to "yes" to see if I can duplicate
the problem....
