hey last morning everything was working fine. when i installed ie7 using ies4linux and wine.. but then ie7 was not working properly and i deleted it manually... since then ie6 stopped working and even firefox shows address not found error. even the speed the system slowed very much so i rebooted and then i saw VBIOS HACK version 0.5.3 message while boot and finally when desktop appeared it showed warning message OAFIID GNOME GeyesApplet has encountered some problem so two options delete or dont delete.... and on top of it (sudo was working fine but) a message sudo cannot resolve host neha-laptop, was coming and the gui of it synaptic wasn't loading at all....
but then thru some googling these errors cud be resolved by changing "/etc/hosts" file where ".domain.net" had been appended somehow... and then i deleted the Gnome applet as that prompt asked and finally speed improved and synaptic loaded...... hahhhh :)

but still the browsers are not working and no page is being displayed
and update is giving "W: failed to fetch http://hardy.."; etc errors.

i have tried changing "software sources" to "main server" but it doesnt help and thru all this skype has been working fine all the while....
pplease tell me some way out so that browsers start browsing............. i am a beginner and dont understand much stuff.....
i use ubuntu 8.04 on lenovo laptop and broadband connection...
