[Question #79353]: Ubuntu freezes on startup - shows windows desktop background!
New question #79353 on Ubuntu:
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/79353
I'm running 9.04 Jaunty on a Compaq V4000 notebook. The OS has been running flawlessly. I also have Windows XP on the same notebook, there are two separate partitions and I nearly always run Ubuntu. I have recently had an update in ubuntu and I restarted the PC into Windows, then when I rebooted back into Ubuntu the splash screen displays, the progress bar goes all the way to the end, then the screen flickers several times and what is left is a frozen image of the windows desktop backgrount, albeit quite fuzzy. I think this is very strange. To date I have tried to repair the graphics setup & grub using recovery mode to no avail. I have attached a photo as I think this is a strange and unique problem. I have turned off the splash screen and everything (except starting firestarte) seems to load. I have attempted to enable boot logging, however, whenever I enter the bootlog the file is blank.

Help Please!!!
Thank you..
