[Bug 1426734] Re: Blender is too old

Firefox is updated to the latest release for EVERY active Ubuntu version(current stable and LTS) not just Vivid.
Blender does have fixed releases, noone expects to have the latest git version, but the stable releases, yes, its logical to have those updated not just for upcoming but nowadays supported distro versions. Otherwise whats the point of repository if you have to download it on your own to run(in case with Blender its easy as unpack and run) or compile it and maybe write a script that does that. Ubuntu is a binary distro but its repos are useless for most of things.

"the latest blender package was uploaded to Vivid on February the 3rd. Is that forgetting about it?"
I didn't forget, thats why i wrote this -> "latest aviliable version ... forget about it until next Ubuntu release"

"Mozilla software have an exception to the archive freeze rule because of paid maintainer"
I see, so how about screw everythings else right?
There is a list of software that don't update frequently, are alive projects, have nothing to do with DEs and are userspace programs(meaning it will not break anything on update). The list isn't that big to begin with.

Title:
  Blender is too old

Status in blender package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
Blender is always old, and you can even have non fixed release in
Ubuntu official repository. Basicly you just slap the latest aviliable
version and forget about it until next Ubuntu release.

Its not updating as often as Firefox yet the latter is always fresh.
