well, for that question, i think redesigning the temporal position controls
for the sound menu is an important task that deserves a lot of attention,
because it concerns content navigation via a spacial interface in general.
In other words, redesigning this for "fitt's law" kind of design rules would
affect  the overall design of scrollbars, horizontal as well as vertical,
too.
