input timeouts aka forgetful search

If you have the Scale Addons + Text enabled in compiz, you will find that it
is possible to type text while in scale mode.
This is fun sometimes, it makes the windows accessible through language
instead of gesture. Imagining a voice command system with speech
recognition, i could instruct the "Window Picker" verbally to focus a
window.
"Focus firefox!" or "Focus mail".
in order for this to function, the objects scaled in this view would all
need to have titles that identify them uniquely. This could be derived of
content title, application name and # instance.

apart from this crazy stuff.. the text has some kind of timeout, it simply
disappears if nothing is done after a second or so.. why don't ALL FAYT
search interfaces in Ubuntu have that?
CCSM doesn't, Software Center doesn't, Contact List doesn't... you name it.

I suggest to introduce "forgetful" search into all FAYT search enabled
interface elements on the entire UI.
The user only wants to see search results for a longer time if they are
interesting, i.e. if there's something relevant.
Especially if the result of the entered text is 0, the search should be
forgotten and the input purged, taking the view back to "initial" with all
the chaos that would entail.
