Message #04950
Introduction and suggestion
Hey All.
I'd like to first introduce myself. I'm Ian Santopietro. I currently do tech
support for System76, and have for nearly a year. I've been using ubuntu
since 6.10, and I love to see all of the progress that it's made since then.
So far, I'm delighted with Unity, and barring a few issues of missing
features, am ready for natty. (Actually, I should say I really can't wait
for natty. It will be totally awesome!)
Anyway, I have noticed something that feels inconsistent to me: The Unity
Panel. It feels out of place to me. It's hard to describe with words, so I
do have a couple of pictures:
Here's one at a default configuration:

And a possibly tweaked configuration with the transparency set:

Most of Unity's central design is dark, solid backgrounds with white
outlines and highlights. It's a strong design, and it feels clean, slick,
and modern. But the panel doesn't fit this at all. The after shot in my
suggestion, in my opinion, does a better job of bringing it all together and
making it feel consistent.
