Re: rotating side bar

The problem with that is Windows users are not used to having more than one workspace. It would need to be an option which is not hard to find, but would still keep the desktop consistant. Personal applications can be useful in a number of situations and hence the fact that they would relistically need to be available on all workspaces.

That is why I suggested a simple dialogue, with a checkbox to enable custom workspaces and drop down menus that have presets that provide the same categories that can be found in the dash. It would give new users a good start and show them how they can split the workspaces up, while more advanced users would be able to get stuck in and make their own straight away.

Its an interesting idea. Scrolling the mouse is used to change desktop. So,
am I right in thinking you want a unique set of icons in the launcher for
each desktop? For example, one desktop for work, one for games, one for
multimedia etc?
Well, an old linux user can always customize. But let's think about a
newbie...solution could be: different environment in different
workspaces, or even a workspace for application, one for places
(documents, downloads...), one for personal applications (calendar,
etc etc)...
How about?

If so, I like the idea. If not then I think it would add more clutter to the
dash, though an easier way of using quicklists to add additional items would
be handy.
