I very much agree with that. Apps that have no indications, shouldn't be displayed in the message menu at all. On the other hand, being able to control your music player using the media indicator is very nice. I also think that you shouldn't have to consider whether an app is running or not. If you ask for it, then it should be displayed. So this is slightly contradicting. I don't really know what the best solution is.

I think caution is vital now. Soon, apps will have lenses, static and dynamic quicklists and indicator menus. This has great potential to become a real mess.
