Re: Ubuntu: synchronizing settings among multiple computers using Ubuntu One

(as posted to Andrea's blog, but other people may find it interesting too)

Hi, Andrea!

This is a great idea. As head of the Ubuntu One application developer programme, I’m happy to give some advice on how this might be done. Here are a few links that you might find useful, for people who have discussed this sort of project before.

* http://launchpad.net/stipple (a previous project which had roughly this idea, but used the now defunct desktopcouch technology to sync with Ubuntu One) * http://askubuntu.com/questions/48444/will-ubuntu-one-support-os-settings-sync/48541#48541 (my answer to someone else asking about this, which explains some of the harder aspects of it) * http://voices.canonical.com/ubuntuone/?p=1342 (Ubuntu One’s U1DB project for data sync)
* https://one.ubuntu.com/developer/ (API documentation for Ubuntu One)

I’d love to chat more about this if you’re interested in starting work on such a project; I have thoughts on it, and can give some guidance and ideas!

Hi all,

in these days I had an idea we could discuss about and maybe try to
implement for Ubuntu 12.10.
In few words: my idea is to make the user able to synchronize his
desktop settings among multiple computers and storing these shared
settings in the Ubuntu One folder.
It's a feature that (as far as I know) no other OS has (yet).

What do you think about?
