The width of the indicator block is the sum of the icons themselves,
plus the padding between them. The padding had been adjusted wider
and narrower several times, but only via changing the padding for all
indicator icons.

Some specific pairs of icons look better closer to together, and some
specific combinations look better with greater padding. This could
probably be improved manually, in the same way that manual adjustments
are made to the pairing of latter combinations such as 'AV' and 'Te'.

A little bit of width could be recovered by a handful of manual deltas
for common combinations. (Owing to the highly-structured nature and
ordering of the fixed indicators there aren't actually that many
combinations to consider.

It could be possible to reduce the pixel count aswell. What counts as
'small' for you?

What you do feel the solution would be? To specify the minimum number
of menus categories that menu fit on the left, and then scale the font
and icon size in the top menu until a threshold is matched?
