Re: Nautilus' Context Menus Getting Out of Hand
A couple points I would like to raise.
First, if we do end up keeping the "Open with [default application]" and
"Open With," the former should just be shortened to Open. I am not arguing
for retaining it, just saying that this should be a change if it is
retained.
Second, I would like to argue for the removal for the "Rename..."
altogether. This is a duplicated function. A file can be renamed by
clicking on the "Properties" entry and changing the name in there. BUT, one
must beware that changing or removing the file extension here, will change
its extension. With this, I would also like to say that the entirety of the
Properties dialogue should be redesigned to be made less... horrible. But
that is probably better placed in its own thread as it is just a mess.
Third, I would like to correct you when you say that OS X has a "Share..."
entry. The closest it has "New Email Attachment." Where this comes from
is Android. One can share media from most apps with any other apps that
have hooked into it. This is one of the great features of Android.
And finally, I would like to expand on your "Share..." idea. You only
listed Dropbox, U1 and generally OS X's iCloud. In addition to this,
sharing with Twitter, Facebook, and other social sites should be just as
easy. If I want to share a photo to my stream, why should I have to open
anything else? Why not post directly from the file?
Otherwise, great idea. I would love to see more work in simplifying other
areas throughout the Ubuntu experience.
