I suggest you to do the following:
- only playing applications should take multiple lines of the sound menu UI
- all other should take only one line and express their current status
- sort the shown application this way: last played at top, running before
not running apps

Maybe:
- If there is only one app, show the control elements like it is right now
- remove the app name and icon of the currently playing application (is
this information relevant when playing a song? It's relevant when starting
an application but while playing it adds just clutter and wastes a whole
line in the UI)
