You have a few options. Personally I prefer using a tool to do the grunt 
work for me with unity-jhbuild:

Otherwise if you prefer manual terminal hacking you can follow

Be advised to use 12.04 though, and not Quantal, as I am not sure the 
entire stack builds cleanly on gcc-4.7 just yet.
