State of the Unity Desktop, 2014-06-13

Hey all, Friday the 13th is on a Friday this month and it's time for your regular update on what's happening with Unity
Desktop development.

Unity 7 Desktop
---------------

This past week we managed to land a score or so of bug fixes into Utopic from our backlog. Good progress. Most of
these are related to problems with the lock screen or scaling properly for non-96-dpi displays. We're looking at SRUing
most of these into 14.04 in time for the 14.04.01 release.

Speaking of SRUs, we've started the SRU process for a handful of Compiz bugs, including the annoying problem of windows
sometimes getting lodged under the Unity Panel at the top of the screen. These will be coming to a 14.04 near you.

Our latest Unity SRU into 14.04 seems to have developed odd, inexplicable problems reported on errors.ubuntu.com. We're
keeping an eye on it as changes are made to e.u.c, and are delaying the next round of Unity SRUs for a bit.

Unity 8 Desktop
---------------

Work is moving apace on making the Unity 8 Desktop a better experience. Some changes to the QtUbuntu packages have
landed, eliminating more differences between the Touch and the Desktop configurations, and another landing is in the
queue that will finally make logging out a reality. Good times.
