Ok, please try the current trunk version, revision 979 or higher.

I have added 'ask as a possible setting for
vm-enable-thread-operations, which is my personal default now.  Giving
a prefix argument to a VM operation overrides the ask dialogue.

Please check the doc strings and the info manual as well, for
consistency.
