Frank, some of your suggestions are very work intensive (like the tour
with cookie check). I also dislike too much state in a webpage. I strive
for improvement of what's currently there.

This is my suggestion for the new welcome text. I suggest using the old
image again as it gives a better feel for the game:

Widelands is a free, open source real-time strategy game with singleplayer
campaigns and a multiplayer mode. The game was heavily inspired by Settlers II™
(© Bluebyte) but has more depth to its gameplay. Still, it is easy to get
started through playable tutorials. For more information read the full
description and look at some screenshots. Or you can download the latest
release and just try it out for yourself.

This website is the home of the Widelands community. You are invited to visit
the forums: discuss strategies, find partners for multiplayer games, help with
translations, voice your opinion on graphics, music and much more.

Widelands is currently (and will always be) under development - you can get a
feel for what is worked on by looking at the changelog. Everybody is invited to
help out too - we need 2D and 3D artists, sound effect creators, composers, map
makers, translators, test players, web programmers and C++ coders. All skill
levels are welcome - just start working on something or ask in the forum where
you can start.

I tried to shorten it, but had trouble doing so. Please try to make the
feedback as concrete as possible so that I can tune the text. I plan to
roll this change out during this week, but will wait a few days for
feedback.

Title:
  Website Frontpage needs some rework

Status in The Widelands Website:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  My gripes with the current website is this:

  - The image does not convey a good introduction to the game. The old screenshot was much better suited for that particular task.
  - The text is slightly verbose - I think it could be shorter. It also talks to much about Settlers 1 and 2 and it does not contain the "building up instead of ripping down" RTS mentality of Widelands.

  This bug report is for discussion - I plan to collect ideas here and
  redo the intro part of the site later this week. Comments?
