Blueprints - Franklin Street Statement
A few key blueprints were added:
https://blueprints.launchpad.net/winterize
Notable is the Franklin Street Statement. In Launchpad the link "Read
the full specification" takes you to the details. In Ubuntu Launchpad,
this usually takes you to a wiki page. In this case it's taking you to
the source of the statement:
http://autonomo.us/2008/07/14/franklin-street-statement/
This statement is a result of a workgroup at the FSF concerning free
software as it exists in the realm of network services. The Affero GPL
tacks on a caveat for just this.
Since one of the two core concepts is decentralization, is is possible
many people will run their private wiki on servers in their own domain
(or personal computers) and others will share between them. This
fullfills the part of the statement that says, "replace centralized
services and data storage with distributed software and data deployment,
giving control back to users". Decentralization enables the other part
as well, "enable the users to move and use their data outside of the
service". Running on your own hardware answers the part about "Free
Software equivalents [to well-known centralized services] that run on
their own computer".
