I don't think so, seeing as the problem is with fan speed policies.

I'm currently running openarena with this driver (and a fanned nvidia
6200 card) and I didn't notice any "irregular" fan speed nor card
overheating (of course this doesn't mean that this issue could by
triggered by the use of other cards, or with a very specific set of
conditions).

At any rate if you are unsure (and don't wish to be checking your
card's temperature every other minute), follow Alberto's and Bryce's
suggestion and postpone the testing for a while.
