Re: Fwd: Warning for Nvidia users on Lucid
This issue has been affecting cards when using high end 3d games...and
from what I've been able to determine in various forum reports, only
intermittently. I've been using the 3-d 195.xx series since they were
in beta and have tested with several 3d games but have had NO issues, so
at least on the linux side the problems are very sporadic at best.
(using a 8800GT and then a 260gtx).
Since I started the testing cycles with lucid, I've seen NO fan speed
increases/decreases beyond normal "adaptive" throttling per
nvidia-settings with card temps staying withing 5 degrees of ambient
normally and nor higher than 20-30 degrees when stressed.
That said, it would be prudent to either back down to an earlier driver
or watching things very closely if gaming a "lot".
In normal desktop mode my test machine has been running 24x7 for weeks
and none of these symptoms are showing up.
As the tests we're doing don't involve "gaming", I'll keep using
195.36.08 until we get a new driver to replace it.
