Doublecheck that you don't have stray -fglrx bits installed as that can
bump you over into software rendering (lp #285603).

Alternatively, try booting with KMS turned off.  There had been a known
issue previously where KMS can cause perf regression on certain
hardware.  I thought it was fixed in the .33 drm with the -16 kernel,
maybe not.
