Re: Call for feedback (last week of testing posted)
*If you stayed around after the first week of testing, why did you stay?*
My motivation for sticking around was to follow the progress of Lucid
development and see if I would run into any regressions when 10.04 was
actually released. Also, I found it fun.
*What did you like about the project?*
It was an easy way to help contribute to the quality of Ubuntu.
*What would you improve it?*
Improved documentation for how to test (maybe screenshots or a slideshow?).
While I was able to figure out most things that were not explicitly spelled
out, I kept thinking to myself that others would struggle with the issues I
encountered. For example, the additional instructions for how to use the
tracker added to the wiki after the first couple of weeks should have been
there from the beginning. I think this might be one reason for so many
sign-ups but so few test results.
As Charlie pointed out, the one hour time requirement was very optimistic.
To do proper testing, a greater commitment was required I think. This was
especially true for the upgrade testing as pointed out by Tim. I tried it
once starting with 8.04 and ended up with an unusable system. After that, I
decided to leave that testing to more dedicated individuals :)
Sometimes I found myself wondering if anyone was reading my miscellaneous
comments in the test results. I think Bryce's suggestions such as automated
e-mails, perhaps to the mailing list, and the ability to mark issues as
regressions would help.
*Would you like to organize yourself a project like this in the future?*
Unfortunately I don't have the time to organize such an effort, but I would
happy to help with more testing in the future. It was really fun.
Many thanks to Ara and the rest of the Ubuntu QA team for all their hard
work! It is really appreciated! 10.04 is going to be a great release.
