Self-made hosting normally has uptime inferior to commercial hostings
(and that is not to say Remy is a bad admin, but they have redundancy on
all level, from power supply to servers, I imagine). I don't know of any
ad-free hosting commercial-grade service, though I haven't searched
(just by reasoning, they have to make money somehow). OTOH, having
hosting at 3SR would give us the benefit of greater flexibility and
storage for big files (like videos).
I was hoping that launchad.net will have wiki hosting service, which
could nicely consolidate scattered services we have now (launchpad for
bugs, packaging, mailing lists and mirroring code, berlios for svn and
wikia for wiki...). There is some demand for that (google: launchpad
wiki hosting) but nothing definitive for now unfortunately.
I think it can be tried, there are database dumps available somewhere
from wikia, which could be directly imported to mediawiki at 3sr, AFAIK.
Regards, vaclav
