I completely agree with Jan regarding possible inertial effects of the
sensor itself.

I'm less optimistic than Jan on the use of "simple" contact laws. The
peak impact force is really a function of all the details of the contact
behavior. Hence, the linearity of Cundall&Strack is a really weak
starting point to reproduce the peak impact force.
