Hi,

Since there is "unstable" in your question title, a direct answer is :
"did you try another time step" ? E.g. changing the safety coefficient
of the GlobalStiffnessTimeStepper (GSTS) in your case

Because the behaviour you observe might be related to a classical DEM
(explicit sheme) divergence problem, impacting the rotational Degree Of
Freedoms only. There was a question by Luc Sibille about one year ago on
this topic if I remember well (but could not find it). The problem is
that GSTS does not include the rotationnal stiffnesses (of the transfert
moment part of the contact law) in the derivation of the appropriate
time step.

The differences between the two contact laws / materials come very
probably just from non-comparable parameters (for instance inclusion of
moment law in one case, and not in the other ?)
