Wait a minute... sorry for prev. message. The question reads: "erosion wear (plastic deformation) ".
Are you 100% sure that elastoplasticity is really the correct physical description of erosion wear?
This is really deciding if DEM is good or not. For some tribology problems DEM is used, for pure elastoplasticity I would not push it.
